Meeting on proposed downtown SSA
A Question and Answer meeting for downtown business and property owners related to a proposed Special Service Area (SSA) for the Central Business District will be at 5 p.m. September 13 at Village Hall. The proposed SSA would fund sidewalk snow removal in the downtown area.
The Village has funded sidewalk snow removal for the Central Business District (CBD) sidewalks and select downtown parking lots since 2000. This was provided as a service enhancement to the downtown, ensuring sidewalks were cleared in a consistent and timely manner. Over the last several years, as a result of the economic downturn, the Village has faced an increasingly tight budget. Therefore, enhanced services such as sidewalk snow removal have become difficult to fund. Last winter, the Village funded a reduced sidewalk snow removal program.

The Village has proposed retiring an existing CBD SSA ahead of schedule. A new SSA would be created at the same rate ($0.55 per $100 equalized assessed value) to fund sidewalk snow removal services. The proposed SSA would affect only those properties who receive sidewalk snow removal services from the Village and are primarily commercial properties located directly in the downtown area. The proposal would result in no overall increase in property taxes.

Flagg Creek revises work schedule
Flagg Creek Water Reclamation District (FCWRD) is currently in the process of constructing a major sanitary relief sewer that runs through sections of Hinsdale, Westmont and Clarendon Hills. Work is currently taking place at the intersection of Ann Street and Eastern Avenue. The construction project includes more than $14 million in improvements that will help relieve sanitary sewer surcharging during heavy rainfalls.
The next street closure resulting from the project will take place near Park Avenue and Walker Avenue and is scheduled to take place on September 13 and will last four to six weeks.
This phase of the project will close Park Avenue between Walker Avenue and Walker alley. In addition, west-bound Park Avenue between Walker alley and South Prospect will be closed. Traffic traveling north on Walker Avenue will be able to access east-bound Park Avenue. Please also note that some parking will be blocked on Walker and Railroad Avenues.
