New Year, New Design: Pantone® Color of the Year 2021

As 2020 comes to an end, I’m sure I’m not alone in keeping my eyes forward—awaiting a new year with new opportunities and new perspectives. Perhaps you’re the “resolution” type, perhaps you’re not – but I think we can all agree on one thing: pandemic or not, we spend too much time in our homes not to absolutely love them.

So, with the vision of a new year fast approaching, our team is thinking about ways to breathe new life into our homes using new design trends. One of the easiest ways to transform a space? COLOR.

In case you missed it, Pantone® released its 2021 “Color of the Year”. And this time, it’s a combo! Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, a color combination that they say conveys “a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” That’s something we can get behind.

Thanks to its neutrality and classic look, gray in all of its gradients have been a trendy interior design color for a while (seems like we’ve been living in the ‘age of griege’ for years). But we’re looking forward to seeing how this new era of marrying grey with a bright, bold yellow color will play out in 2021!

Here’s what Pantone® has to say about using these two hues in Home Design and Décor in 2021:

“Ultimate Gray and Illuminating are a great combination to set the mood in any room in the home adding a dose of sunshine and positivity. Juxtaposing Illuminating with Ultimate Gray in table linens, sheeting and home accessories including pillows and tabletop infuses vitality and liveliness. Painting a front door in bright yellow Illuminating conveys a warm and welcoming message when supported by solid and dependable Ultimate Gray in the exterior finishes. The ideal combination for any office whether in the home or in a commercial space with Ultimate Gray providing the firm foundation for Illuminating, a vibrant yellow that heightens awareness and enhances intuition, lighting the way to the intellectual curiosity, originality, and resourcefulness of an open mind.”
Tell us: what do you think about this color combo? Would you incorporate it into a room in your home?
