A small jewel located 22 minutes by a commuter train from Chicago. Hinsdale is split between 2 counties; on the east, is Cook County, to the west, Hinsdale occupies a portion of affluent DuPage county. Hinsdale Illinois is renowned for its opulent homes and serene atmosphere. Founded in 1873 by William Robbins, Hinsdale is a beautiful bedroom community located 21 miles from Chicago.
Downtown Hinsdale is a National Register Historic District and homes and businesses are easily accessible by train (BNSF – Burlington Northern Santa Fe). Many beautiful churches decorate the community and put forth some of the best surroundings. There are even seven buildings that are in the National Register of Historic Places, and the Hinsdale Historical Society plays a big role in their preservation.
When searching for homes in Hinsdale, many of my clients identify which area they will focus on. All of Hinsdale is desirable but many people looking for homes separate the areas and focus on one.
For simplicity, the areas can be broken down into eight quadrants of geographic and grade school areas.
  • Monroe School – North East
  • The Lane – North West
  • Madison – South West
  • Oak School – South East
  • Elm School – South of 55th Street
  • Golfview Hills – W of Madison and South of 55th Street – served by District 60
  • North of Ogden Avenue area
  • South Unincorporated Hinsdale (Tri-State)
The town boasts numerous locations for business, public education (Community Consolidated School District 181 and Hinsdale Township High School District 86), and private education (Hinsdale Adventist Academy, St. Isaac Jogues Elementary School, and Zion Lutheran School).
Hinsdale is rich in cultural events, lush parks, and a vibrant downtown that is registered on the National Register Historic District. The many parks boast mature trees, expansive lawns, skating rinks, soccer fields, and baseball diamonds. Many of the parks are also on the National Register of Historic Places as well.
Residents enjoy art fairs, the annual 4th of July parade, weekly musical events during summer months, and an always popular weekly farmer’s market. Hinsdale shopkeepers and business owners also host the ever-popular Christmas Walk each year.
Hinsdale is also home to several well-known restaurants such as Il Poggiolo Restaurante, Zak’s Place, Nabuki, and family-friendly Dipps and Dogs and Doggie Diner among others.
