Although the days remain hot, bright, and long, the next season is quickly approaching. While I whole-heartedly believe that the “season of learning” is year-round no matter what your age… It’s officially that time of year again for our children.
School supplies fly off the shelves. Teachers prepare their classrooms and lesson plans. And parents excitedly send their children…back to school!
With four school-aged children of my own, I like to reflect each and every year on how fortunate we are in this community to have such wonderful education available to our children.
Hinsdale Township High School District 86
District 86 is “a community of learners committed to education in an environment that promotes excellence, respect, and responsibility.”
It is a district that is recognized both on the state and national levels for academic excellence. Both schools in the district (Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South) consistently appear on The Washington Post’s list of the “Most Challenging High Schools” and U.S. News & World Report’s list of the “Nation’s Best High Schools”.
With a 93% graduation rate, High School District 86 prepares our students well for college. In fact, 76% of D86 students meet or exceed college readiness benchmarks (much higher than the state average of 51%!)
Community Consolidated School District 181
With more than 3,900 students, District 181 boasts a 95% attendance rate and serves the communities of Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, as well as parts of Burr Ridge, Oak Brook, and Willowbrook.
Nearly 74% of teachers in this district hold a Master’s degree or higher and have an average teaching experience of 14.5 years. These are the highly intelligent and committed minds that teach our kids!
D181 truly provides a premier educational experience for students. The curriculum is guided by “research-based, results-oriented educational programs reflective of community expectations.” Let’s face it, our expectations are high. We all want what is best for our children and to prepare them for their futures—to be critical thinkers, creative, curious, courageous, collaborative, and continually improve upon themselves.
What more could we ask for our children? This area truly is a wonderful place to live…and learn.
Thank you to our schools and the teachers who help us as parents nurture and stretch our children’s minds.
Cheers to the new school year!
