Winnetka officials have picked Robert M. Bahan to fill the vacant village manager position.

An official announcement and Bahan’s appointment came Wednesday night. Bahan is expected to assume his new role in Winnetka on Nov. 29. He’ll start with a salary of $180,000.

Bahan, whose current job is village manager for Clarendon Hills, submitted his resignation for that post sometime this week to accept the position in Winnetka. Winnetka leaders announced Monday they had selected a candidate.

Bahan served as village manager in Clarendon Hills since 2002 and will stay in that town until November, according to a Clarendon Hills release.

While in Clarendon Hills, Bahan helped that town complete several major projects, including construction of a new police station, and work related to the Downtown Master Plan.

Winnetka spent the summer searching for a replacement for Doug Williams, who retired in June.

The village received 108 applicants, which were reviewed by consultants. The council narrowed its choices during the last few months. Officials said they spent 66 hours in executive session making their selection.

While the council searched for a replacement, the position was temporarily held by Liz Rosenthal, who was assistant to the village manager under Williams.
